so….. its happened…
That we so desperately wished wouldn’t happen again so soon
but it did…. *sighs*
The question is now… what do we as Artisans do with ourselves? I’m sure we’ve all found that we can’t get into the game without a severe issue with the connections, seems like someone at GFF took some of the equipment or unplugged some bandwidth.
And by the tone of the posts…. it could be the last dying days for Ryzom
So, Artisans… what do we do? where shall we go? I know we will wait by the shores of Atys until we see the death barge float by, but how long to we wait and do we move on?
I don’t know myself, so this is why I am asking here, to see what everyone’s thoughts are… away from the insanity on the Ryzom Forums.

This thread on the forums explains it all.
What a sad, sad day for all of us.
Cheers all

I shall wait, pick in hand, for the fount to rise again before me. There is digging to do, my friends.
I do not want to think of what I shall do without Atys to discover, but if I must move on I would dearly love to travel with my comrade Artisans. There may be other worlds to roam, and though they may not be as dear to us as Atys, they will be sweeter for the companionship of my guildfriends.
Let us strive to stay together through this storm and out the other side, be it here on in another realm.
cheers,
Lhyrs

I am still hopeful that someone responsible will be able to recover the code, and find sufficient funding to keep the game alive. Folks in France, and elsewhere, passionate people, are moving fast to salvage it, and dream of making it the way it should be, with development, growing the lore, etc. There is hope. We will see, in a little less than three weeks, if and where we might want to regroup.
So if there is insanity on the forums, we should strive to call for patience, for fear of losing too many. Ryzom will not die.
The present situation, with the servers’ CPUs replaced with hamster wheels, certainly doesn’t help. But the rings are fine, a little laggy when 50+ are in it, but playable. I checked out the ring scenario editor for the first time yesterday, and found it excellent, a tad complicated but very complete. This game has far more depth than we have seen with our regular play, both in development possibilities and lore, and it needs our support and confidence.
October 3rd, 2007 @ 5:18 am
Riveit is waiting on the beach, ready to call to all the Artisans to gather again. While we are waiting, is there another world that my guildfriends are drawn to?
The Ring is a fine tool. Too bad so many of its talented users quit in the first 6 months of it when it was so buggy. Now it seems better – at least I don’t crash out of every scenario.

Hehe, Totesol chose this time to return to Atys. :p I’ve had emails from Tote, Warev, Mathais, Pipp, Omicia and Solara in the last day or so. AA is alive!

from Zarles:
Greetings from the tall blue one in the funny mask, Zarles.
Currently some friends got me back into playing WoW, I am currently on the Destromath server, on the Horde side. If you want, feel free to come, the people in my guild are friendly are a bit insane. All Atys citizens would be welcomed, and I am saddened to hear of the world’s fate.
I blame the Kami.
October 3rd, 2007 @ 10:07 am
Not sure if I want to go to WoW, was trying to avoid that game entirely.
October 3rd, 2007 @ 1:41 pm
Aww, shucks… *TThhhppptttt*
Stupid Kami. But seriously – I am CERTAIN that Fijoo had a hand in it too…
Ames and I have been demoing any RPG we can, much like we were doing before we found Ryzom, but any new home has VERY big shoes to fill. Either we have found nothing any good or we have very high expectations…
I still don’t get how two games with (as a general rule of thumb) so much in common can garner millions of players in the one case (WoW) and a mere handful in the other (Ryzom). I guess the mysteries of Earth are just as deep as the ones on Atys.
So, if Ryzom survives my picks are all sharpened and anxious. If not
then the Artisans will rise like a phoenix on some new distant land!

I have been playing Puzzle Pirates for the last few days. It is pretty fun and it grows on you. It is like yahoo games with pirating. It is free to play on the Viridian server (the one I am on as Koard)
If you use the link above I get 1500 gold and you would get 500 st startup. If you don’t get the viridian server at start you can switch “oceans” to Viridian before you create a character, characters will not transfer.
While I don’t think it is a long term solution. It would be a fun place to just hang out and play some cards. Plus, looting other ships is a good deal of fun.

I’ve heard from more Artisans.
Kiwi says “I am playing the RL game quite hard right now, and doing a bit of lotro on the side. However, wherever you lot decide to go, I will follow. Love AA loads, and i’ll be around to taunt Pero in another game if our atys goes under.”
Warev says: “we can all jump on something Iverem went to Vanguard. I have a copy I supoose I can try it. Alfadir and Cybille are on wow kilgoretrout plays LoTR’s so who knows but give me a shout”
Greymage says:”It’s great to hear from you! Sorry to hear about Ryzom – it’s very sad ..
I haven’t played anything since Ryzom except a couple of Wii games, but if
AA decides on a mass migration to another game I’d be happy to join in…
I like the blog site.”
Images says: “I’m sad. Images would like to know what new land AA plans to go to.”
October 4th, 2007 @ 4:33 am
Utai and Starrain were in LOTR together. I haven’t heard from them yet.
October 4th, 2007 @ 7:12 am
As things progress …. I guess we should at least post some game names to give suggestion and opinion on, if we as a group want to shift gears. I know we’ve all got alot of time pent up into this game, and I REALLY REALLY hope that it will get brought back to life.
Anyways, here’s my 2 dappers on the rest of the MMO world:
UO – been there, done this, not impressed
Everquest – been there, miiiight consider returning but then again don’t have all the latest releases. I do have a character on there
GuildWars – haven’t been on there, so don’t know what to say
WoW – UGH! BLA *GRINS*
Alt Genere:
EVE Online – big space game…. little complicated… not so sure yet.
City of Heroes – been there, miiiiight consider returning as well, as I do have a character on there too
Thats all i can think of off the top if my head. Anyone else, PLEASE chime in.
October 4th, 2007 @ 7:47 am
Other options are LotRO, which has 3 AA members and some more friends playing already – a fair number of Ryzom players have found a home there – e.g. Aajolea, Katla and the Samsara. Vanguard has Iverem and our old friends from VVV + others like Atys Paladins. RF Online is a possibility although many say it is very “grindy”. Also I don’t know of large groups of Atysians that have stayed there long – alot tried it and left I think. I do think that Age of Conan looks very interesting from the blurbs I’ve read – but the game is scheduled for release late March 2008.
October 4th, 2007 @ 11:05 am
… I forgot Final Fantasy XI also. Rali was playing this game alot in the past.
October 4th, 2007 @ 11:08 am
Hey, with EVE Online, we can still dig!!! *bounce bounce* its just a huge asteroid verses the desert or plains *GRINS*
October 4th, 2007 @ 1:01 pm
Hi Everyone!
Sorry to hear about Ryzom closing
It was fun while it lasted though.
I haven’t played anything since, but I’ve started thinking about Tabula Rasa, just because it looked different, and it’s from Garriott – I still have fond UO memories. I’m not thrilled about the seeming combat orientation, but I haven’t come across anything else like Ryzom where you can just craft and dig. Even EVE I hear is really PvP once you get into it.
It would be great to see everyone again in a new world… hope we can find one together…
October 4th, 2007 @ 3:14 pm
i dunno about EVE. i just had a trial, but it felt SOOO lonely and wayy too technical. i didnt like the fact that i couldnt see my toon either.. i felt like my entity was a space ship.. boo.
trying to get a trial key still for GuildWars and downwloading beta stress test for Pirates of the Burning Sea.. you can put that one in your ALT catagory Marile
i heard everquest 2 was good.. dunno i have only played ryzom.. so who knows.
what other games have foraging/crafting?
October 4th, 2007 @ 6:14 pm
Hi all:
What about Conan?
I have heard that it will be the next great thing but it is “R” rated which will restrict most younger players.
PS: heard a rumor the other day that there is a secret level (Like the Cow level in Diablo).
You can have sex with Conan??? Whoa!
(/em Mathais starts silly rumors)
Peace out.
October 4th, 2007 @ 6:30 pm
Hi Artisans!
Like Kek said, I have been hunting for a new home for us all, in case Atys does not survive yet another horrific challenge…
One that I have been playing for a couple of days is called Horizions. It is much like Ryzom as far as the interface goes, and is not hard to learn. Oh, and in case you “diggers” are worried, you can dig there too…
Anyway, keep us all posted of your findings on other games as I would hate to see us all part!!
Love you, AA!! (and Jezzer!)

Florah also replied and said she may join us on another world.
October 5th, 2007 @ 2:46 am
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Horizons has crafting, including crafting your own spells. Thought you all would like to know that too…
October 5th, 2007 @ 2:48 am
I tried GuildWars a little after it came out, and I didn’t really think it was an MMO – it’s almost all instanced, only a few areas are group. So it was more like a fragfest with common resting areas than a world.
October 5th, 2007 @ 10:07 am
I was just reading up on LotR, I like the ways they’ve taken to avoid grind, e.g. exploring and quests rather than killing mobs. It also looks like the recent update fixed some economy problems, and player housing will be coming with Book 11, whatever that is. And they also have a downloadable 7-day free trial (5.6gb!).
The only downside is the machine requirements seem rather hefty, I think I saw someplace the stated 512MB minimum is a joke, and the minimum video card is an ATI 9800 Pro or Nvidia 6600GT; these used to rather high end cards, although checking at NewEgg I see better cards can be had now for AGP systems for $50-$100, so I guess it’s not that bad, and probably all newer games will have higher hardware requirements.
October 6th, 2007 @ 7:59 am
my computer is fried.. so i cant do any testing
seems like most people are trying guildwars/lotro though. sasi has already run into a problem with lotro.. says she cant play on the same server as europeans, which is no good. sygma told me about horizons i have little knowledge of that game.. looked like the graphics werent so great though in some screen shots.. but looks like its very unique.. ill prolly give it a go.
*hugs AA and Ames*

Don’t know if anyone noticed or not, but Horizons just went through a company purchase itself. Seems it was bought up by another company…
[snippet]
September 13, 2007 PHOENIX, Arizona – Virtrium LLC, developers of online game technologies and products, announced today that it has completed an agreement with Tulga Games, LLC., in which Virtrium has agreed to purchase the assets of Tulga Games. As part of the purchase agreement, Virtrium will continue to support and develop the subscription based MMO Horizons.

Well, after a week of LOTRO, it still feels like I am playing a single-player game. I have never even gotten a “hello” from any other player, much less spending any actual time with anyone.
Wrong server, perhaps?
Dunno, but while it is neat to be a hobbit, i am building no attachments.
Ho hum…..
October 7th, 2007 @ 11:19 am
Well, was fun while it lasted… *SIGH* Lots of technical difficulties.
What is next? Anyone have another plan?

October 7th, 2007 @ 3:04 pm
Utai wrote back saying that he is on “the LotRO Elendilmir server. They have a one week free trial there, if you want to give it a try out. A quest/driven game, but does not provide the the wonderful opportunities for grouping and guild interaction of Ryzom.”
October 7th, 2007 @ 4:03 pm
Horizons, that is…
October 7th, 2007 @ 7:58 pm
*HUGGLES TO EVERYONE* oooo comments abound!
well, sounds like LOTR and Horizons has fallen off the log for some. No one has said anythign more about EVE or GuildWars…
Seems Ryzom was such a unique game… maybe thats what happened to it… none of the other companies wanted this amazingly wonderful world to be well known among the public, so sent the men in black to GF to ‘convince’ them to let it all go…. *GASP* conspiricy!
I dropped back into City of Heroes / City of Villians, and amaxing enough (after 2+ years) my characters are still there! I’m on the Champion server, if anyone happens to stop in, but this is ONLY a filler until someone reboots/boosts Ryzom! I am NOT giving up on Atys!
October 8th, 2007 @ 11:06 am
Kek, were you careful making your new character? Maybe it looked like your blue Atys self – have you checked a mirror?
Or, don’t they have cooking there? Maybe too much garlic in your food?
October 8th, 2007 @ 12:05 pm
guild wars is too diabloish for me.. i dunno. i didnt really get to play it that much.. at tops like 1 hour of game time.. didnt realize it was a 10 hour trial.. and i left it logged in over night.. anyways i guess its okay.. its not as straightforward as lotro. which i have been playing for a day. lotro seems to me just like wow.. i havent played either very much.. its okay.. better than guild wars i suppose. im going to give rf online a try.. it looks really cool.

I checked out Puzzle Pirates and its a cute mindless way to spend some time.
Seems someone already made a character named Pipp, Pip, and Pippster.
If I am on, it’s as Pippsqueak. LOL what else?
October 9th, 2007 @ 5:49 am
Starrain checked in to announced that he just got his Masters degree! Congrats! and says:
“I was playing LOTR on line and will go back, as I think it is the best MMO on the market currently (not saying much). I am awaiting Age of Connan, as I think it has some potential to change the MMO scene as we know it.
Let me know if you all decide to move to another game, but stay in touch no matter what, and I hope to see you all soon. ”
Mythandri contacted me as well. He is refusing to let Atys die.
I’ve been trying out the 10 day free trial of WoW. It is fun although there certainly are alot of idiots there to ignore. I’m going to need a new computer. I can barely run even WoW on minimal settings and openGL on this one. :-\
October 11th, 2007 @ 5:19 am
Grrr!!! Everything sucks compared to Ryzom… *evil grin* Let’s buy it… Atys will be OURS!!! Oops, did I say that out loud?? *blushes*
October 11th, 2007 @ 4:54 pm
*bounce* I’ll Donate!! *bounce*
I’ve got (counts bag) 5.6mil dappers, 3000 fireworks, 3 stacks of cats, and some sup mats…. think that will cover it? *GRINS*
October 12th, 2007 @ 4:04 am
I’ll donate my lifetime collection of Fijoo skins
*checks bag*
Hey! Some of these are Kek skins!
>.<
October 12th, 2007 @ 4:27 am
BTW, has anyone tried out the new UO Kingdom Reborn thingy, i don’t know if its a new world or if its just a new interface or what….
October 13th, 2007 @ 1:16 pm
Hey guys! It’s Myrn!
I’m on Guild Wars as Rowan Nightglade. I actually have a guild with a cape and a complete hall, just no people for it, as I refuse to stand around town bellowing for recruits.
Uhm, I miss you guys, especially Pero, Hekla and Sol. And Mekah.
I just found out today about Ryzom when I logged in.. I hoped to see everyone again.
I’m very broken up and I’m crying atm. If you want to give me access to the forum, I’d appreciate it.
*sob*
- Myrn!
October 14th, 2007 @ 10:24 am
Any one mention DAoC? I may try their 14 day trial and see what its like…
Doesn’t look like there is anything out there thats appealing to me.
I miss Ryzom and all of you.
October 14th, 2007 @ 11:58 am
Well, I spent about an hour in LotR this weekend. My observations:
- Hardware requirement isn’t that steep – I ordered a new 7600GS for $90 and that was set to High graphics using the autodetect settings at 1600×1200 (P4 3.0Ghz processor). Manually setting it to the top ultra high setting was feasible, but was noticeably slower, probably wouldn’t have been playable with crowds. The ultra-high setting didn’t improve things much, I had to scout around for changes… only thing I noticed was better textures, e.g. bumps on crates and rocks. My old 6800 GT on an AMD Barton 2800 was also set to High at 1280×1024. An ATI 9700 on a P4 2.5Ghz was set to Low (1280×1024), just one step up from the bottom Very Low, but even that looked OK.
- It wasn’t that pretty… granted it was winter (played as Elf), but it looked like a pretty drab world, nothing like Matis in the spring.
- It was easy to pick up the interface, things seem well thought out.
- The thing that bugged me most was the animals didn’t do anything, they just sat wandered around aimlessly waiting to be killed.
Overall it seems like it’s a well done MMO, but on the other hand I didn’t see anything to distinguish it from anything else, and it just didn’t grab me at all. I guess I should play long enough to try out crafting and other non-combat trades but I doubt I’ll be able to muster the interest.
October 15th, 2007 @ 6:56 am
I’m hanging out in WoW, Alterac PVP server, Horde side at the moment. It’s no Ryzom but I’m having fun there doing quests and making mayhem in a little guild with Braveganzar, Braff, DT and Dollydagger. Anyone that wants to try it is welcome to join us. Send me an email riveit@hotmail.com or forum pm for more info.
October 15th, 2007 @ 6:34 pm
well, I downloaded DAoC twice – a lengthy download, I might add – and each time it requested a key. WTH! A key for a free trial? Either I did something wrong or its no free trial?!
Looks like I will wait for Conan or that Pirate game that are due out… hmmmm….
October 16th, 2007 @ 7:43 am
Well, I’ve given up on other games….
I’ve come back to Ryzom, and even tho its slow, its giving me the chance to work on Ring Scenerios! So I have mine up and running almost 48 hours now. I’ve made some tweaks, and I know its still slow for some, but at least its better then mainland!!
