Ryzom bought back by Spiderweb?

Surprising news today: someone popped in the ryzom.org forums to inform us that the liquidation was almost complete, and that the bids had been evaluated yesterday afternoon, Paris time.

After verification and cross-checking, it appears a company called Spiderweb won the bidding process (213,000€). No information is available on the web for this company; Xavier mentioned he has a feeling it is a front for another company made up of people who, in his own words, are “close to the game”. Spiderweb doesn’t have a website, and many companies are registered at the same street address, so I tend to think it’s a front as well.

However, it appears other bidders were not notified, which opens the possibility for a counter-bid to take place. Should that happen, it would only delay the process by a few days, not weeks.

In either case, things are moving forward much faster than expected.

Totally sweet, may have lost all of my ‘toons, but at LEAST can play again..
What mean is, they can keep the ‘toons, but they CAN’T take my knowledge of places to have fun..
Just get back online, and we can do what we want within the rules of course…

    Hello AnaBale!

Not so easy, I fear… There’s no telling what the new owner might do with the game. All that we know, is that Ryzom’s fate should be decided very soon.

    That fate might be:

    - Ryzom servers back up (toons lost or not)
    - Ryzom’s graphics engine used for another MMO (saves quite a bit of R&D)
    - Ryzom shelved (one competitor out the door, database of players used for marketing or not)

Let’s wait and see. At this stage, we don’t even know if the counter-bidding took place, nor the identity of the highest bidder.

All we know is, the legal process is moving…

While we wait http://mabinogi.nexon.net is a game I just started playing yesterday. Open Beta started on Friday, its free and being developed by the folks who run maple story. Looks like lots of crafting and stuff to do outside of hunting, like composing your own music. It is skill based like Ryzom, meaning no classes.

It is certainly worth a look. I am on the Tarlach server, usually channel one. My name is Koard.

Looks like Mabinogi beta is US only. Oh for sheeps’ sakes…

I installed and launched WoW. I’m tempted to say yuck. Might pop in over the weekend, but Yubo there appears to be no place like Ryzom…

In case anyone is following this reply thread and isn’t aware of the news, Ryzom has been back since August 1st and is fully functional. New accounts are available to play the full game including mainland, and the game is expected to be free to play until “at least the end of october” (see official thread here. Cheers!
