Riffy Rithy returns

Xaphon Zessen has just announced the return of Riffy Rithy:

Hey Homins!

Well it’s been a while but never fear; I’ve been keeping my ear to the ground and keeping an eye out for all the latest news.

Just the other day I was at the bar in Fairhaven when I overheard two homins mention a name I’d not heard in a long time. The Famous Riffy Rithy of the Guild of Hawkers has been on a long expedition and is returning tomorrow. No doubt he’ll have many stories to tell from such a long journey. That’s one reason why a reporter like myself shall be making sure that I’m near Fairhaven stables at 8pm GMT (3pm EST // 12pm midday PST) on Thursday 15th Jan.

I also overheard that the expedition he was sent on was of great importance to the Guild of Hawkers. The chairman himself, Padger O’Toogh, has personally requested that Riffy report directly to him on his return. I wonder what it’s all about….

Hope to see you there!

Edit: this event led to the recovery of the Loria Murder Amber Cube. See The Fall of Loria and the official Amber Cube text.

I’m sure there’ll be events at all time zones. To quote the Event team meeting:

Bosse says: Will there be sufficent notice when these events will occur so we can plan to be here?
Boroshi(CSR) says: Bosse : you should usually get at leoast a weeks notice for major events, but sometimes we might do one without any notice to catch you off guard ;)
Lobosdiablos says: the element of surprise is great though
Vur says: It attaches you to it more then. :P
Zxy says: what about people in different time zones? will surprise events happen at “UK evenings”?
Jelathnia says: [With Kitin events you can say the Order of the Rangers of Atys has been observing kitin movements and predicts that they'll be attacking X location at approximately Y time.]
Uatu says: some random events would be nice at least
Nysha says: Zxy, he said they’d try to organise times such as weekends which are good for everyone
Vur says: Yhea, I’d like random events. :P
Marelli says: [And then ofcourse the kitin will arive half an hour earlier becaus it was only a rough estimate ;) ]
Kilgoretrout says: Random makes you log in to make sure your world is safe
    Jelathnia says: [Indeed :D ]

Hard to accomodate for all time zones :)

Did not miss much, this was just the introduction to an Amber Cube recovery event, which should happen over the weekend, at better US hours.

Even though he was obviously in a lot of pain, he still managed to report to Padger that he had a convoy of three packers who were with him while he was travelling from the Desert where his path took him through the Prime Roots. At some point on his journey he was ambushed by Kitin who quickly swarmed all over him; frightened by the situation his convoy of Mektoubs scattered and ran but somehow Riffy manged to escape alive. !

Now here comes the interesting bit everyone; during the course of all this Padger asked Riffy if the “Special Item” Riffy had unearthed was on his person. Riffy replied negatively and that it was on one of his packers when he was attacked. This sparked Padger to ask the homins in attendance to find Lady Ailan, The Governor of New Trykoth so that he could speak with her.

Now I can’t be sure, but I’m sure I heard “Amber Cube” start to be mentioned. could this be a new Amber Cube?

    Update:

After much deliberation on our best plan of action, I have decided that we will need help from experts in Prime Roots. The tribe calling themselves “Cockroaches” have all but cut their ties to us homins on the Bark due to events in their past, yet they know the Prime Roots better than any other Tryker. Fortunately, Padger still has connections to them and he shall be able to act as an ambassador on my behalf. I fear that their distrust of us will still be great, even with Padger’s help, but I hope you will do anything they request to secure their aid.

I request that any Tryker or friend of New Trykoth be present at the entrance to Fairhaven at 10PM GMT (5pm EST // 2pm PST) today to escort Padger to the camp of the Cockroaches. Remember that the Prime Roots are a very dangerous place, so please remember to equip yourselves accordingly for your own protection.

    Update:

The Cockroaches have already proved their worth as scouts and have relayed to me that they have discovered the rough locations of the packers we seek. Sadly their past treatment was so horrific that they refuse to tell us for fear that we will recover the cube without them… Meet [today] at 8pm GMT (3pm EST // 12pm midday PST) at the entrance to Fairhaven.

This was a very good event, in three parts.

The first part was just an announcement, to set up a little context and re-introduce Lady Ailan, current governor of the Lakelands (I don’t recall having encountered that character before).

The second part was a long trek to accompany Riffy Rithy all the way from Fairhaven to the Cockroaches tribe village in Sunken City. Long trek, fairly uneventful thanks to the large number of homins accompanying it. Some quarreling did occur in the Prime Roots region in Lands of Umbra and Nexus, then Riffy Rithy strayed the party off-course a little, to run right into a huge Vorax that took all homin strength to defeat.

The third part took place in Elusive Forest, where we had to recover two of Riffy Rithy’s packers, or rather locate their bodies. That was rather quickly done, teams straying off in all directions. The third packer was actually left stranded in Underwood Woe (go figure…), right in the middle of the usual host of Kitins that inhabit the area. Failure to mix guilds and general lack of organization led to no less than three wipes, and I suspect the four Cockroaches that were there helped us sufficiently to prevent an entire series of wipes.

So the Amber Cube was recovered, and is now in the care of the Cockroaches to be copied and transmitted back to Lady Ailan of the Lakes.

    Fun.
